6922 based direct-coupled driver stage is compatible with 6DJ8/6N1P.

​

Also known as the "input stage" or "phase inverter", this part of the amplifier is made up of two 9 pin dual triodes, which can be a powerful tool for voicing your amplifier.  6922, for example, is dynamic and sharply focused, while 6N1P is warmer and possibly more musical.  These tubes are interchangeable without adjustments, just plug and play.

 

Simpson Bias Meters, one for each KT88 output tube.

American made, the bias meters for the Zen TORII monos are the Rolex of meters made by Simpson.  They show you the current flow of each output tube, making it super easy to adjust for maximum tube life.

Decwre Bias System can be operated easily without tools.

​

There is a knob in the rear of the amplifier to raise and lower the bias of the KT88 output tubes.  The functional range is from 50 to 80 milliamps, and the meters show you the milliamps in real time, so it is easy to change or adjust.  With this amplifier it is possible to explore many different brands of KT88 tubes without the stress of worrying if they exactly match or not.  There is a balance control located between the meters that allows you to match the current draw at a glance, even while music is playing.

​Massive High Voltage caps eliminate the need for power conditioners.

​

The large black caps behind the  KT88 output tubes create a 1000VDC ultra high microfarad power supply that yields amazing dynamic headroom but also incredibly black backgrounds.  While a good power conditioner or regenerator can make a massive difference with our smaller amplifiers, people report hearing little to no difference with the TORII monos because the power supply is so well executed.​

​RCA and Transformer-coupled XLR inputs.

 

These amplifiers feature XLR inputs using wide bandwidth low distortion transformers.  The transformers affect the sound in a very positive way evident by the resulting dimensionality and tone.  The effect is similar to the sound of a good moving coil cartridge.  It would have been easier and less expensive to make the amplifiers differential-balanced and not use transformers - but the signature of the amp was our top priority.

​Point-to-point wiring with no circuit boards.

​

The complete absence of circuit boards puts everything in 3D space where the fields of wires and parts can be controlled.  Vibration control is on a whole different level compared to circuit boards.

High Mass

​

The absence of resonant circuit boards is enhanced by an extremely high mass stainless steel chassis coupled to a solid hardwood base.  There is nothing there to vibrate.

Volume / Gain Control

​

Each TORII MONO has one.  Input sensitivity or gain controls make it possible to run the amps without a preamp and or create a gain structure with a preamp that can be used to enhance density.

​Solid Hardwood Base

​

We makes these amps from 1/8 inch stainless steel that is high in mass and then we direct-couple that to a solid hardwood base to create a dense resonate free amplifier which improves focus.  The hardwood bases are available in different woods and styles from within the shopping cart.

​6922 Based Driver Stage

​

The driver aka input stage is based on the popular 6922 dual triode and is direct-coupled to a second 6922 used as a phase inverter.  We ship these amplifiers with a wonderful sounding Russian military version of this tube called a 6N1P-EV.  The first tube is for gain and the second tube is the phase inverter.

​Powder Coat Finish

​

The only finish that won't scratch off over time as it is electrostatically applied as a powder and then baked into the metal at high temperature.

Operates without excessive heat

​

This is possible because the power supply is oversized, and because there are only four tubes. There are no vents in the chassis for cooling because there are no internal parts that get hot.  This keeps the amplifier's internals clean over the life of the amplifier.
